3 Ways to Fall in Love With Motivated Mondays

Even the most motivated person — you, me, Tony Robbins — can feel like they’re in a slump sometimes, especially on a Monday morning. This can make you feel like you’d rather stay snug in bed with a hot drink and Netflix, but unfortunately fortunately, we need to get up and face the world.

When you’re feeling mentally and physically drained, making small positive changes in your life can help you look forward to Monday, kick start your week and get through the day with more energy and a spring in your step. Here are three ways to help counteract those Monday blues and get through the week a winner.

 

1. Start the week with exercise

Perhaps this feels counter-intuitive, but yes, starting the week with exercise in the morning can get your blood flowing and endorphins pumping. It is tempting to leave this task to the evening, but by this time, you are already drained from the day and it’s harder to summon the energy to make the most from your workout. It doesn’t have to be an hour long weights session; a 30-minute yoga or stretch class, or a quick morning walk or jog in the fresh air will do a great job.

Health and fitness guru, Dave Smith, says that by exercising in the morning, you are increasing the effectiveness of your workout as well as giving your metabolism a kick-start for the day. A bonus of exercising before eating breakfast is that your body burns more calories, which is great for helping shed any extra weight.

 

Although it may not seem like it, exercising at the start of your day can give you more energy and make you more productive while you work. It also lowers your cortisol levels (the hormone that causes stress) and increases endorphins (the happy hormones) which can leave you feeling relaxed and far less anxious for the rest of the day.

Making a morning workout part of your daily routine can be tough at first, but you can quickly make a habit of it, and soon you will be feeling much more confident, accomplished and productive.

 

2. Get set up on Sunday night

Have you ever dashed out of the house on a Monday morning and got to work realising you left something important, like your lunch, behind? Setting up everything you need for the next day on Sunday night is an easy way to make sure that your Monday runs much more smoothly. An excellent idea is to make a list of things you need to do and items you will need for Monday.

A few ideas for this list would be to check Monday’s weather online, decide what you are wearing, and pick out your outfit for the day. You would be surprised how much time it saves when you aren’t trying to decide what shoes to wear with which dress while you’re in a rush to start your week.

Another idea is to pack your laptop, keys, and any other items you will need and leave them right by your door, or on your kitchen counter - somewhere you will remember to take them with you.

Lastly, pack your food for the next day. Some quick and easy ideas for breakfasts are smoothies or pre-prepared oats that you can pop in the fridge and grab in the morning before you head out the door. As for lunches, make them the night before, and you’ll find yourself saving time and money by not having to buy lunch out.

3. Do something you love on Monday

After having a fun and relaxing weekend, it’s sometimes hard to look forward to Monday. And, when the dreaded day comes around, we find ourselves wearily trudging through it. It's time you started re-framing your perspective of this equally important day! And having something to look forward to on a Monday can set your mood in the morning and it's a great way to lift your motivation for the week ahead - valuing every day and all of life!

Whether it's a hobby or sport you love, set aside some time for yourself on Monday to do it. Not only will this help you look forward to the day but it will help Mondays seem to fly by faster, and will help lift and shift your mood, energy and enthusiasm levels about this day forever.

It’s sometimes hard to find time for ourselves outside of work when we are so busy with life, family and friends. Even taking 15 minutes out of your day to do something for you will change your mood drastically and leave you feeling much more motivated.
